Today we will talk about the need of patents, their advantages and protection of intellectual property through patents.

What kind of protection does the patent provide?

The patent protects the rights of the patent holder. This means that without the consent of the patent owner, the invention can not be used, distributed, or sold. Patent rights are protected by court order. Courts have the right to stop the activities that violate the patent. And vice versa, the court may invalidate the patent based on justified evidence.

Advantages of patent:

• The patent owner may allow or prohibit the use of the patented invention to third person before the expiration.
• The patent owner may sell his rights to the invention of someone else who in this case will become the new owner of the patent.
• Once the patent expires, the protection ends and the invention becomes public property, that is, the owner is deprived of invention’s rights.

How to Get a Patent in Armenia?

• You must complete an application for an invention or utility model
• Please also include the description of the invention with all the details attached to the application
• Append to the application also the necessary  drawings and schemes

Remember a separate application has to be filed for each invention.
